Jewelry Care
Jewelry Care Guide
Just like all precious items, jewelry requires proper care to maintain its brilliance over time. By following a few simple guidelines and a basic cleaning routine, you can ensure that your favorite Odotis pieces remain beautiful for a lifetime.
General Care Guidelines
-
Avoid contact with chemicals: Always put your jewelry on after you have finished styling. Perfumes, hairsprays, body lotions, and household detergents can dull or damage the surface of your pieces.
-
Keep away from moisture: Remove your jewelry before showering, swimming in the sea or swimming pools, as well as during workouts or household chores.
-
Proper Storage: When not in use, store your jewelry in a cool, dry place—ideally in a closed jewelry box or airtight ziplock bags to prevent oxidation caused by air and moisture.
-
Sleep: We highly recommend removing your jewelry before going to bed to prevent accidental damage or warping.
Bronze
Bronze is one of the oldest and most durable alloys in history, loved for its warm golden hue and vintage charm. Due to its copper content, it is natural for bronze to react with skin pH and moisture, occasionally leaving a temporary greenish shadow on the skin. This is completely safe, harmless, non-permanent, and easily washes off with soap and water.
How to prevent oxidation:
-
Frequently wash your bronze pieces with mild soap and water to remove skin oils that accelerate oxidation.
-
You can apply a thin layer of clear nail polish to the inner surface (e.g., inside a ring) to create a protective barrier between the metal and your skin.
How to restore its original shine:
-
Mix 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda with a little lemon juice until it forms a smooth paste.
-
Apply the paste onto your bronze jewelry and rub gently with a soft cloth or toothbrush until the tarnish is gone.
-
Leave the paste on the item for 20-30 minutes.
-
Rinse thoroughly with water and dry it completely.
Sterling Silver 925
Sterling silver is a timeless material, but it naturally tends to tarnish (darken) over time due to exposure to air and natural elements.
How to clean it at home (for pieces without stones):
-
Line a small bowl with aluminum foil.
-
Place your silver jewelry inside and cover them completely with baking soda.
-
Pour hot water over them and wait for about 5 minutes. (Note: Do not use a metal spoon to avoid any chemical reaction).
-
Remove carefully, rinse under lukewarm running water, and dry thoroughly with a soft microfiber cloth (avoid paper towels or tissues, as they can scratch the silver).
Gold Plated
At Odotis, we use high-quality 24K gold plating, however, the gold layer is a semi-permanent finish that requires gentle handling.
How to clean it safely:
-
In a small bowl of lukewarm water, add a few drops of mild dish soap.
-
Let the jewelry soak for about 5 minutes.
-
If there are hard-to-reach areas with buildup, brush very gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
-
Rinse under running water and pat dry with a soft, clean cloth. Note: Never use silver polishing cloths on gold vermeil, as they are embedded with abrasive chemicals that will gradually wear down the gold plating.
Important Note for Jewelry with Stones or Oxidized (Blackened) Details
Jewelry featuring gemstones or custom oxidized details (blackened areas for style) should never be exposed to chemical cleaners, baking soda, or lemon juice. For these pieces, a simple wash with lukewarm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth is the only safe method.
